Don't you love that feeling when you open up your e-reader and gaze over a colorful matrix of covers? FED creates colorful, stunning compositions, making sure your ebook cover stands out among a sea of others.
Conceptualizing your cover:
I usually prefer coming up with abstract, high concept, illustrated covers, but to be realistic, that's not what every single author wants. I will take your vision into consideration, but I also hope you will be open minded enough to take my professional advice. FED strives to create highly marketable covers that suit their respective genres.
Some of my older clients like the element of surprise, so they usually fill the form and let me do my thing. Others prefer full control of the cover's content, design, and even composition. Whatever the case, I hope FED does not disappoint.
From the initial eBook version, I usually expand into the print version.
How FED works:
Fonts and text are always laid out first in my cover design process. I realize a lot of people try to work the text around their images, but in my personal opinion, that's not good practice when you're doing book covers.
There's a big difference between lovely images with text, and actually applying graphic design fundamentals to cover creation.
Fonts and styles aren't meant to be that thing that happens to go on top of an image because you have to, otherwise, no one will know it's a book cover. Fonts and graphic elements are the real base of cover creation. Notice, all covers that are created with full attention paid to the actual graphic design aspect of the cover are way more powerful than those with shiny images, but still lacking a certain something you can't put your finger on. That certain something is usually an incorrect font choice, a floater font, lack of graphic elements, or wrong font size, even.
I usually choose a font based on genre or general ambience/feel of a book.
Conceptualizing From A Blurb:
I usually need a blurb to form a concept, assuming I'm left to my own devices. The blurb usually provides everything I need to create the cover. I will examine it closely for keywords that might spark a concept.
I usually don't love putting faces or characters on the cover, but exceptions are made, depending on the target audience and your personal preferences.
What about illustrated Book Covers?
I do love doing illustrations, especially for Sci Fi and Fantasy covers. The issue is that authors prefer a fast and affordable cover, and illustrations do require time. Time means hourly rate. ($45/hr) Hourly rate means the standard pricing doesn't apply anymore. If I am able to outsource illustrations via one of my stock sites for the exact same standard price I charge, and if the theme fits, then I will accommodate my authors with speed and efficiency. Otherwise, if they request elaborate work, the hours need to be put in.

eBook Pricing:
A starting price for an ebook cover is $125. I say starting because it usually depends on the project and its complexity. In case of a series, the 2nd book onward becomes cheaper.
